Romeo

Oh sweet child of mine. You are something else.

There isn't a day that goes by that The King does something ridiculously funny. Lately, he's been pulling out all the stops at "school". Every single adult that works there knows him as the "class clown".

I'm not even exaggerating.

They usually tell me something along the lines of how silly he was dancing that day, his beautiful singing abilities, his love for babies, funny faces and expressions he made or new words or teacher's names he can pronounce.

This past week he's really been a character though.

On Tuesday I picked him up and the supervisor ran into us in the hall. She stopped to say hi to the "clown of the class" as she normally does and then proceeded to tell me that every time she brought someone to his classroom to visit that day, The King ran up to the door and flashed them his belly. Then erupted in giggles.

Hmm.

Today at drop-off his afternoon teacher, whom I missed yesterday, asked me if I heard about how his day went in the toddler room. I said sort of and knew that it went well but asked if I missed something.

Well she confirmed that it did indeed go well and he slept great on his cot. Awesome. I was really hoping he would do well, even though I'm sad he's "graduating".

Then she added a "but" and started laughing.

Interesting.

Apparently, my little bugger kept trying to sneak over, literally he tip-toes when he's being sneaky, and climb into bed with cute little Jo-Lee.

Oh. Dear. Lord.

I knew they liked each other. If you even mention her name he gets a little smirk and he raises his eyebrows all excited like "oh, she's here!" And she likes him because his name is one of the few words she can clearly say.

But trying to take the afternoon nap with her?! I don't even know.

I mean, he's been charming women in the grocery store for months. Now he's flashing people and sneaking out of bed to snoogle with the girl in class?

I don't know if I should cry or plan to home school him for the rest of his life.

Who is this kid and where did my baby go?

I was hoping I had ten or so more years before I had to worry about girls. I knew he'd be trouble but I was hoping it would be the kind of trouble you get into because you broke my possessions, not little girls hearts.

Good grief.

This kid is going to be a handful. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Plant corn, you get corn, right?

Happy Friday and Happy Weekending Friends!

I want to know

I realize I'm late to the party on this one but can someone please tell me what the hell this is all about?

My sister showed me a hilarious video of two guys singing this song over the weekend but I can't find it. So this will have to suffice.

I'm sorry in advance to doing this to you.

But really, is this a joke?

And if it isn't, how the shit do I not have a single on iTunes?

Sweet Mother of Pearl

It snowed last night and it was 30 degrees this morning. There is also snow in the forecast for the next few days.

Mannnnnnnnnn

I realize that this happens, at this time, every single year but it does not make it any easier for me. I hate being cold. I hate being cold almost as much as I hate spiders, rude people and sending my kid to daycare.

And that's saying something.

In other news, I saw a buck run across the corn field this morning. I literally jumped out of my chair and slid across the kitchen floor in my sock feet to get a better look at it. Then I excitedly ran for my phone to tell PB. Except he didn't answer so I had to rapid fire text him 30 times. You know how it goes.

I wish that sucker was in our back yard so I could have shot it.

Just kidding.

I don't even know where the rifle is and am fairly certain I will never shoot anything, ever.

Our house is still under construction so it's a hot mess in here. It also smells like venison jerky which is not exactly a delightful, welcoming aroma. I am having a ridiculously hard time fighting the urge to clean this place instead of working on mindless excel spreadsheets.

My life is so exciting.

Because I'm already dreaming about spring...it's going to be a longggg winter.

Insanity

Today is insane.

The cauliflower soup sucked. Don't make that one.

Gap is having another ridiculously awesome sale. Son of a betch.

I love this boy.

I love this song.

The end.

Baby it's cold outside

That means it's layers, boots, scarves and soup season!

Last night I made the pork loin with pomegranate glaze from The Family Flavor. It was delish! I butterflied and cooked the loin on the grill instead of the oven and it was not at all dry. The glaze was awesome too and super easy to make. PB was skeptical at first but went back for seconds so I think he liked it. He would neither confirm, nor deny. I definitely recommend it.

Tonight I'm going to try cauliflower cheddar soup and hope that I don't cut off a finger in the process. I found this recipe on two peas and their pod. Looks yummy. Just need some bread.

Roasted Cauliflower & Cheddar Soup

Yield: Serves 4-6
This creamy cauliflower soup is rich and creamy...without any cream!

ingredients:

1 ( 1 1/2 pound ) head of cauliflower, cut into florets
3 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
2 celery ribs, diced
3 1/2 cups vegetable broth
2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl, toss the cauliflower and garlic cloves in the olive oil until well coated. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Place on a large baking sheet, in a single layer. Roast the cauliflower until lightly golden brown, about 20-30 minutes. Set aside.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large sauce pan over medium heat, add the onion and celery and saute until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Chop up the roasted garlic. Add the garlic, roasted cauliflower, vegetable broth, thyme, and rosemary and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat so that the mixture simmers and cook until the cauliflower is tender, about 20-25 minutes.
3. Using an immersion blender (or in batches in a blender or food processor), blend the soup until smooth. Add the cheddar cheese and stir until melted. Season with salt and pepper and remove from heat. Ladle the soup into bowls and serve warm. We like to serve the bread with crusty bread or homemade croutons.

Old stuff kinda day

I can't keep a promise

So I've been on a bit of a bender lately and I promised myself that I wasn't going to consume any sweets this week.

It's been ridiculous how much crap I've eaten lately.

I did really well all day yesterday and thennnnn I nearly cut the tip of my finger off with our new wicked nice, sharp knives and immediately decided I would eat cookies as soon as I stopped gushing blood.

Because surely cookies are the only thing that can make me feel better in this type of situation.

I'm only slightly exaggerating about the cutting off my finger part but for real, I might have a real big problem if my nail didn't get in the way. Or you know, I continued to cut through my finger...Irrelevant.

I can't even type with it right now. It hurts. Wah.

This is the second time I've cut my finger on these knives in just one week. What the hell is with that? I guess I'm not used to having nice things or something because I have never cut myself washing dishes before.

Or maybe I need to pay attention to what I'm doing?

I'd also like to mention that PB forced me to put peroxide on the damn cut. True to my inner six year old, I tried to sneakily talk my way out of doing it by explaining that the knife was clean and I really didn't need it and we don't even have peroxide. But I failed miserably. PB was onto me.

Can you blame me though? Does anyone remember how bad peroxide used to sting when your mom dumped it on a fresh scrape you got from stupidly jumping your bike in the school parking lot and landing on nothing but your knees and elbows?

Yeah, the last thing I want to do is add more pain to my finger situation. No, thank you.

And then he told me for the fourth or fifth time to do it and so I did. But only for fear that I would get a terrible infection and have to amputate my hand if I didn't.

To my surprise, it didn't hurt nearly as much as I remembered.

Maybe it's because I'm a grown up?

Or just a gross exaggerator and enormous wimp.
